Umphrey’s McGee brought the heat last night, April 24th, playing the second show of a three night run at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN. The sold out show was absolutely packed, and Umphrey’s didn’t disappoint. The group played two high-energy sets, including a monster “Triple Wide” and some good jams in “Ringo.”

Of course, the highlight of the show was a cover of Prince’s “When Doves Cry,” played in the middle of “Bright Lights, Big City.” As Umphrey’s is known for their 80’s covers (having played “Africa” by Toto last night with Big Wu guitarist Jason Fladager), it’s nice to see them debuting “new” materials from the decade. UMLive subscribers can stream the cover here.

Umphrey’s closed out the show with an encore performance of Bob Seger’s “Night Moves,” with Brendan Bayliss on the acoustic guitar. UM fans have one more chance to see the band tonight, before they set off for the UM Bowl in Las Vegas and start hitting the festivals in summer. If you can’t make it tonight, be sure to tune in via webcast.
