Weezer performed two unique sets, acoustic and electric, on December 6th, for a sold out show at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia. The acoustic set contained memorable Weezer greats with “El Scorcho,” “Island in the Sun,” and “Buddy Holly.” Following that, the electric set, Weezer played their new album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, in its entirety.

Due to the acoustic instrument change, the first set was a different sounding Weezer than I was personally used to. Moments I expected to hit hard sounded more mellow because of the acoustics, but I could tell the true Weezer fans were getting into the older tunes they came to hear all the same. Weezer nation belted their hearts out in unison to “Island in the Sun,” and “Buddy Holly,” featuring Rivers Cuomo’s lyrical stylings.

As Weezer took stage for the second time, excitement could be felt around—energy infectious. Beginning with a hard banging and electrically charged “Ain’t Got Nobody,” Weezer deeply contrasted their first set right off the bat. Second song, “Back to The Shack,” continued the intensity as guitarist Brian Bell advertised his abilities for all to see whilst shredding his guitar. An unforgettable peak from the second set involved a monumental, “Anonymous,” as both male and female choirs took stage behind the band, canons shot off confetti, and the crowd went certifiably berserk.

With a quick costume change into all-white jumpsuits, Weezer came back for more encoring with “Surf Wax America” from 1994 ‘Blue’ album, Weezer, caping off the night with an oldie but a goodie.
