In honor of Dr. John’s birthday this November, Omnivore Recordings and the official estate of the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will release Live At The Village Gate, a previously unissued live performance from March 5th, 1988. The album will be available digitally and on double-CD on November 21st, just a day after what would have been the New Orleans music icon’s 84th birthday.

This previously unreleased 1988 performance at the Village Gate in New York City captures the magic of Dr. John in his prime. The setlist features a mix of classic covers and timeless songs from across his extensive catalog, including “Mess Around”, “Georgia On My Mind”, and “Mardi Gras Day”. Fans will also hear the rare gem “Mama Roux”, a fan-requested track from his debut album Gris Gris.

Live At The Village Gate was mastered and restored by multi-Grammy-winning engineer Michael Graves and includes new liner notes by Joe Marchese of The Second Disc, shedding light on the significance of this rare live recording. The album is a true testament to a singular artist who helped define the sound of New Orleans and beyond.

The double-CD and digital versions of Dr. John Live At The Village Gate are available for pre-order now through Omnivore Recordings. Watch the official album trailer below and scroll down to view the full tracklist.
