Colorado’s newest live electronica project, Photon, will play at Your Mom’s House in Denver on Friday, August 16th.

Newly born out of Denver’s eclectic live music community, Photon draws sounds from both dancey electronic music as well as 70s era funk and fusion like Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, and Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Comprised of Jimmy Dunstan (YAMN), Dan Africano (John Brown’s Body), and Neal Evans (Dopapod), the trio explores the live improvisational styles of rock and space similar to The New Deal, Tycho, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood, and have played throughout Colorado’s ever-growing music scene with ShwizZ, Banshee Tree, and Mr. Specific.

The trio will be joined at Your Mom’s House  by Denver’s trance-fusion outfit Schema Things and Michigan improvisational rock outfit Stormy Chromer for a classic Denver jam-filled night.

Evans shares his excitement on the formation of Photon:

“For me, Photon is another chance for me to create with long time collaborator Dan Africano, and to finally make some new and intense music with my old friend Jimmy Dunstan. Dan and Jimmy are possibly some of the most opposite personality types, but in a true testament to the universal language of music, we find loads of common ground in this group. And the result is a joyous exploration of tones and grooves, with a lot of intelligence and intention.”

Photon will also support Kessel Run at Boulder’s The Fox Theatre on August 24th with special guest and legendary Colorado bassist, Kirwan Brown, in place of Africano. Tickets to Photon’s August 16th show Your Mom’s House show can be purchased here.
