Andy Frasco brought his brand of high-octane musical anarchy to the Suwannee Amphitheater for a wild and woolly set at last weekend’s Hulaween, but he didn’t do it alone. Guitar phenom and fellow big-haired artist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, hilariously introduced by Frasco as his son, came out for a blistering guitar duel with Shawn Eckels that featured…well…just watch the clip below. Also on hand were members of The Motet, with singer Lyle Divinsky delivering an upbeat and soulful take on Stevie Wonder‘s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”.

Frasco’s band does a magnificent job of backing up their unpredictable frontman. Besides keeping the beat, drummer Andee Avila showed remarkable vocal prowess in an impressive call and response session with Divinsky. Saxophonist Ernie Chang showed plenty of stage presence of his own, wailing on his horn while rocking the stage lip. With all that rock-solid talent and skill serving as a foundation, Frasco is free to do what he does the best: entertain.

There are an infinite number of ways to express yourself, and not all of them work for all people. Fortunately for the world, Andy Frasco found his voice and a way to convey the magic inside him. Mixing a heartfelt message of love with the wild rush of manic abandon, the overall effect of his stage presence can eclipse his substantial piano chops at times. The resulting feelings of elation, exhaustion, and hope with which he leaves the crowd are clearly mirrored in his own soul. As an artist, he takes his crowd on a journey out of the dark and into a joyous dance of freedom.
