While live concerts remain on hold, Andy Frasco & The U.N. guitarist Shawn Eckels was tasked with finding a new outlet for his onstage antics and intensity. Luckily, Shawn had to look no further than his brother, Joel Eckels, another music industry professional who runs the front of house sound for Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. The easy part for the Eckels/Eckels collab was finding a musical partner. The hard part, however, was recording new music from 1,000 miles apart, as Joel’s home is in Los Angeles and Shawn lives in Denver.

Yet their musical calling and bond of brotherly love overcame the physical limitations beset on them by the pandemic and recorded their debut single. Today, Live For Live Music is excited to premiere the first of many funky singles from the Eckels Brothers, “Miss Mooney”.

The song, written by friend Damian Cartier, features Shawn and Joel playing every instrument. Don’t let the wig fool you—that’s not Phil Lynott back from the dead on bass, but rather one of the talented Eckelses. The funky romp starts off with a jolt courtesy of Shawn’s wah-wah-soaked guitar phrasings and leads right into the upbeat lyrics. Despite the dour hue of life during the pandemic—especially for touring music professionals—the Eckels Brothers are still able to belt out the opening line, “Beautiful day, beautiful sun/Gonna spend it with you/Because you are the one.”

Of the song, the Eckels Brothers simply told Live For Live Music, “Smoke N Dope N Rock N Roll.”
