The Heavy Pets—composed of Jeff Lloyd (guitar and vocals), Mike Garulli (guitar and vocals), Jim Wuest (keys and vocals), Jamie Newitt (drums and vocals), and Tony D’Amato (bass)—are on the precipice of releasing their fourth full-length studio album, Strawberry Mansion, this fall. The five-piece group hailing from southern Florida has built quite a name for themselves over the past decade, playing over a thousand shows across the country since their humble beginning back in 2005. Known for their funk-infused synthesis of straight rock and roll and jam, The Heavy Pets have continued to win fans both as dedicated road dogs and for their ever-growing catalog of studio recordings.

Today, this studio collection grows with The Heavy Pets releasing the lead single off the upcoming collaborative LP, Strawberry Mansion. The new single, “Higher”, perfectly captures the feel-good South Florida origins of the band, with a tropical, dub-inspired sound. Mediating between energized and laid-back and dubby, “Higher” is a well-crafted ode to love that is sure to become a well-loved staple of the band’s setlists. If this new single is any indication, then fans should look forward to Strawberry Mansion, which can be described as a culmination of the band’s experiences over the past twelve years as a staple of the South Florida music scene and beyond. As noted by guitarist and vocalist Jeff Lloyd, “We are incredibly proud and exited to unveil our first self-produced record in over ten years. The Pets got back to our roots, recorded this our way, and reconnected with the spirit of what got us into this world in the first place.”

Live For Live Music is proud to present the exclusive first stream The Heavy Pets’ “Higher” below. Notably, this premiere coincides with the band’s performance at Oregon Eclipse today, which kicks off The Heavy Pets’ five-night West Coast run. Over the next week, the group will also hit Portland and Eugene in Oregon, as well as Chico and San Francisco.
