If you’re not up on Lawrence yet, it’s time to get familiar. The upstart eight-piece soul-pop group led by the young brother/sister duo of Clyde Lawrence (keys, vocals) and Gracie Lawrence (vocals) has been rapidly gaining steam since 2016, when they released their fantastic debut album, Breakfast, which was produced by renowned guitarist and Grammy-winning producer Eric Krasno and featured guest spots by Adam Deitch (Lettuce), Cory Henry (Snarky Puppy), Maurice “Mobetta” Brown, and more.

The band has also started making a serious name for themselves onstage, selling out larger and larger venues and drawing rave reviews at clubs and festivals across the country. As Lawrence prepares to release their sophomore album, the band will hit the road for the “New Stuff Tour”, which will give fans in major markets like Washington, D.C., Brooklyn, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago the chance to check out their new material.

In addition to their airtight songwriting abilities, Lawrence has made a habit of taking pop songs and turning them on their heads at their performances, creating live mashups and transforming well-known tracks into something brand new. Today, Live For Live Music is proud to premiere a brand new live video of Lawrence’s fully reimagined cover of Sean Paul‘s reggaeton mega-hit “Get Busy” featuring Rashawn Ross (Dave Matthews Band) on trumpet. In the video, shot at The Rex Burger & Lobster in Long Island, the band deconstructs “Get Busy” and rebuilds it behind Clyde and Gracie’s soulful vocal harmonies as a sultry, rhythmically complex, texturally diverse jazz-funk jaunt for some unsuspecting diners.

As Lawrence explains, “We love taking songs that we grew up listening to and making them our style. It’s so fun to see people at our shows react to something that is both familiar and different at the same time. We’ve done covers of songs by Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, and tons of others, but this Sean Paul song is possibly the one we’re most proud of so far…And we’re so psyched to be able to feature the legendary Rashawn Ross, one of the absolute best musicians on the planet.”
