St. Petersburg, FL-based roots, soul, and dub outfit The Hip Abduction aims to take listeners on a journey with their new single “Float”, the first track off their upcoming fourth full-length studio LP, To the Ends of the Earth, due out August 9th.

The Hip Abduction—comprised of David New (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Powers (bass), Cody Moore (keyboards), Matt Poynter (drums, vocals), and Justino Walker (guitar)—reflected back on their formative days of impromptu jam sessions when conceptualizing and recording To the Ends of the Earth. The majority of the album’s 11 tracks were self-recorded at Tampa, FL’s Lala Mansion before the band headed to New York to finish the album alongside producers Jackson Hoffman and Ryder Stuart.

“Float”, which premieres today exclusively via Live For Live Music, is a feel-good new tune that opens up with a dreamy vocal loop backed by a reggae drumbeat out of Poynter’s corner. David New jumps into his lead vocals with passion and pride as his bandmates add the perfect ethereal sonic landscape behind the song’s heartfelt lyrics. Encompassing aspects of African, Caribbean, and American roots music, “Float” takes its listeners on a soothing ride to a tropical beachside atmosphere far from home.

“We’re all hardy travelers and have spent time in faraway strange places so the lyrical content was easy to agree on,” New tells Live For Live Music. “The song isn’t about a person. It’s about that particular place that we can draw motivation from during tough times or situations.”
