Live For Live Music is now accepting applications for full-time and part-time staff writer positions. We are looking for experienced writers to join our editorial team, with the opportunity to move into the role of an editor based on performance.

As a staff writer for Live For Live Music (L4LM), you would be a key part of our editorial team, helping us track down, research, write, and edit multiple daily articles in a virtual newsroom environment. Check out more about the position and what we’re looking for below. APPLY HERE.

Staff Writer Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Write hyper-polished, well-structured, and compelling articles about music news on WordPress
  • Edit and proofread written pieces before publication
  • Research unfamiliar topics for the purpose of informing articles and fact-checking
  • Manage schedule for content posts on social networks, monitor engagement
  • Stay on top of happenings in the music world and identify potential stories
  • Develop, research, and write longer features/series (e.g., interviews, premieres, editorials)

Required Experience, Skills, & Traits

  • Previous experience as a writer or editor for a digital outlet
  • Impeccable command of the English language & proper grammar with a knack for composing tight but captivating copy
  • A proven ability to clearly and accurately frame news stories, even on unfamiliar subjects
  • A proven ability to self-edit and find and fix grammatical errors and typos
  • Knowledge of and personal presence on various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • A working computer & access to a reliable internet connection
  • Knowledge of and passion for music (specifically jam, funk, bluegrass, rock, indie, soul)
  • Goal-driven—both personally and for the team’s overall success
  • Time management—a self-starter with an ability to prioritize and complete assignments on time without excuses
  • Professional—can work with artists, management, and publicists while keeping their cool
  • Good attitude—positive, passionate, and flexible with a willingness to learn new skills
  • Hard worker—eager to put in the effort to help drive the publication forward
  • Reliable—can show up on time and ready to hustle every day
  • Availability:
    • Full-Time: Able to work 9 a.m.–5 p.m. (ET), Monday through Thursday, with one rotating 9 a.m.–5 p.m. shift each weekend (either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
    • Part-Time: Able to work roughly 20 hours per week (including weekend shifts) with a flexible schedule

Additional Desired Skills

  • Background/education in journalism
  • Interest and past experience in the music industry
  • Familiarity with SEO
  • Experience using WordPress or other content management systems
  • Experience using team/project management applications (Asana, Basecamp, Slack)
  • Experience with image editing/graphic design (Adobe)

Location: Remote (Preferred: New York City-based/within Eastern Time Zone; willing to wake up early if located further west)

Full-time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, plus one full-day rotating shift each weekend (either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
