Southern rock and soul mavens JJ Grey and Mofro closed out the Hurricane Irene-delayed Big Orange Music Festival the weekend before Thanksgiving with a resounding set of good times and smooth charms. Grey has always been a storyteller, and he was in fine form throughout the ninety-minute headlining set. Backed by the nearly orchestral sounds of the gospel and jam-heavy Mofro, the audience drank in every note and syllable. Clearly, the storm delay only deepened listeners’ thirst for Mofro’s brand of homespun wisdom and hard-gained musical skill.
