The funky crew known as PHO will return with their second full length album release, two, in March of 2017. The band brings an undeniable party wherever they go, as the seven piece funk armada never fails to incite the dance floor grooves. There’s a reason why Prince liked them

Today the band shares the first taste of the new album, premiering the track “Dr. Drake” exclusively via Live For Live Music. Says saxophonist Aaron Levin, “‘Dr. Drake’ will keep you dancing for all of its fiery five minutes. It features a relentlessly driving and tight arrangement catering to our Minneapolis roots, but with a unique and original approach that provides us with a fresh take on a new era of funk music.” He’s dead on about this exciting new groove.

Feast your ears on “Dr. Drake,” below.

Guitarist Spencer Christiansen adds, “‘Dr. Drake’ is like a funk puzzle. Every part has its place in the beat — inspired by the sounds of Prince’s Black album and James Brown. Our new record, two, represents all of our influences coming together under the funk.” We’re always down to come together under the funk.

Says keyboardist Patrick Horigan, “‘Dr. Drake’ mixes the bubbly Minneapolis sound with our own touch, and a bit of psychedelia is added for good measure. It ends up being its own thing – and I think the new record as a whole is a collection of all of the vibes we’ve been cultivating since Cash It.”

The band has a series of performances coming up soon, including dates supporting bands like TAUK and the Eric Krasno Band. They’re also celebrating the album release in March with shows in Madison and Chicago, so don’t miss out!
