In 2015, Greensky Bluegrass staged a one-of-a-kind performance that elevated the band to new heights. There was always something of a buzz about GSBG, but their visit to Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA that winter was on another level. The group had the opportunity to jam with the venue’s proprietor himself, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh.

After a full set of playing mostly original tunes, Greensky was warmed up and ready to rock. The group started out set two with a couple of classics from its repertoire, including “Better Off” and “Windshield”. It was then that they welcomed Lesh to the stage, and broke into the Ronald “Pigpen” McKernan-led Grateful Dead song, “Mr. Charlie”. The group would play “Black Muddy River”, “Franklin’s Tower”, and “Eyes of the World” with Lesh, as well as original tunes “All Four” and “Don’t Lie”.

Greensky still plays Grateful Dead covers now and then, if you’re lucky enough to catch one. Thanks to video from TaHoboBob, we have full footage of this magical night. Enjoy it below:
