The Funky Nation pulled into Fire Island, NY on last Friday, August 28th, and were treated to a little Island Life style. Big Sam and the crew spent the day on the island, feasting on lobster and ice cream, checking out the local basketball tournament, and catching a beautiful sunset on Great South Bay.

Then… it was showtime at Maguire’s.

The band scorched the locals and some long-time fans who made the trip over with a two-hour-plus set, heavy on covers, including The Meters’ “Africa”, Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk”, and Otis Redding’s classic “Hard To Handle”. When they were all done, they left a hot & sweaty crowd screaming for more.

To finish off the Fire Island experience, they hit the local playground for some shenanigans and then grabbed some late night pizza and baked goods like the regulars do after a good night out in Ocean Beach.
