With the release of their brand new album Sir Nebula just a month ago and now the beginning of a massive fall tour just a few days ago in Pittsburgh, TAUK continues to make their music known to bigger and bigger audiences. Last night the quartet brought their progressive and instrumental sounds to Milwaukee’s Miramar Theatre for a really fun Saturday night show, on October 8th.

Indiana-based funk rock outfit Earphorik opened the show, laying down a great and funky set to get things rolling. TAUK followed shortly thereafter, opening the show with a fun “Dirty Mouth”. For the entirety of the concert, TAUK pulled evenly from all their releases with at least one track from each album. From the new album Sir Nebula, they played “Sunshine Harry,” “Waver,” “Resolve,” “Time’s Up,” and “Darkwing.” Although some of these tunes have already been in their repertoire for quite awhile, it was the first time I got to see this new material live, and it fit really well in the show. “Time’s Up” had some notable musical exploration that exemplifies TAUK’s ability to stretch out. Another one of the musical highlights was “Afro-Tonic.” The song always has a great jam section, and this version didn’t disappoint as it got quite out there.

The other thing to note about the show was that it was two sets. One has probably seen TAUK at a festival, or opening for Umphrey’s or STS9, over the past year, and it has usually been one set. Even the last time they were in Milwaukee, headlining a show, they played one set. So it was a very pleasant surprise to hear them play two sets. TAUK easily has enough material to cover two sets, so hopefully this is a trend that lasts. So after two sets, they raged an encore with “When In Doubt” followed by the Kill Bill theme “Battle Without Honor or Humanity.”

TAUK continues their tour throughout every region of the country, so be sure to check them out when they play near you. They will consistently be on the road from now until the year culminates in Boston for a New Year’s Eve bash with Lettuce. Seeing TAUK play in smaller, more intimate venues might be a luxury that will not be afforded in the future.
