Over the course of their soon-to-be 30 seasons (?!) on air, iconic animated American sitcom The Simpsons has covered a lot of narrative ground. The show has traversed such an immense spectrum of story lines over the years that it’s difficult to think of a situation or narrative idea that The Simpsons hasn’t covered. That fact itself has even been riffed on in popular culture (see: South Park‘s hilarious “Simpsons Already Did It” episode where Butters/Professor Chaos continuously tries to cook up outlandish schemes to take over the world, only to realize that every idea has already been executed on The Simpsons).

To tell this bafflingly long list of stories, the show uses the large and colorful cast characters that comprise the show’s fictional town of Springfield, in addition to a near-constant stream of famous guest stars, often appearing as cartoon versions of themselves.

The Simpsons Celebrates 25 Years of Music At The Hollywood Bowl

15 years ago today, during the show’s 14th season, The Simpsons aired a “rocking” new episode featuring one of the most star-studded groups of guest stars they’ve ever had. In the episode, entitled “How I Spent My Strummer Vacation,” Homer Simpson’s wife and kids surprise him with a trip to a “Rock n’ Roll Fantasy Camp” run by The Rolling Stones, where Springfield residents can learn the rock n’ roll lifestyle “without the lawsuits and STDs” from Simpson-ized teachers like Mick JaggerKeith RichardsElvis CostelloLenny KravitzTom Petty, and Brian Setzer–each of them voiced by the real-life musician.
