There’s something magical about the words Horning’s Hideout to fans of The String Cheese Incident. Nestled in the hills of North Plains, OR, the storied grounds have played host to many String Cheese runs throughout the years. The events are often transformative, with musicians and fans coming together to create transcendental experiences.

That was certainly the case on a beautiful Saturday, 22 years ago today, when the Horning’s venue hosted String Cheese Incident for a three-night run. The 2001 Horning’s Hideout run came to a peak on the second night, when Cheese played a total of four sets throughout the day. Starting early in the day, the band played two full sets with big improvisational jam sessions before treating fans to a famed “Ritual Set.” The set included an hour-long jam session that weaved through “Rivertrance” and “Land’s End Reprise”, though it focused heavily on the communal instrumental groove.

As if that weren’t enough, the band returned for a fourth set, late-night style. This time, SCI recruited members of The Motet to help out, as well as bassist Tye North. Vocalist Jans Ingber lent his voice to “Use Me” and “Lean On Me” in that final set, bringing this performance to a grand finale.
