Upcoming Colorado jamgrass act Tenth Mountain Division has steadily been on the rise over the past few years, traveling the country from coast-to-coast in their beloved yellow school bus, Dorothy. Comprised of Winston Heuga (mandolin), MJ Ouimette (guitar), Campbell Thomas (keys), Tyler Gwynn (drums), and Andrew Cooney (bass), the five-piece has been dazzling venues, bars, festivals, ski towns, and even college fraternity parties with their high energy Colorado rock ‘n’ roll. The young gunners also recently collaborated with the 14’er Boulder on their own unique weed strain, which is certainly an accomplishment to write home to mom about.

Since their relatively short time touring together, the five-piece has shared the stage with Nicki Bluhm, Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band/ Bela Fleck), Bill Payne (Little Feat), Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band), Jeremy Garrett (Infamous String Dusters), Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon), Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon), Alwyn Robinson (Leftover Salmon), Anders Beck (Greensky Bluegrass), Roosevelt Collier, and contemporaries like The Lil’ Smokies, Jon Stickley Trio, and The Magic Beans. After playing Winter Wondergrass afterparties over the past three years, recently, TMD recently was announced on Winter Wondergrass’ festival bill alongside Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Railroad Earth, and the Infamous Stringdusters.

On Friday, September 28th, Tenth Mountain Division will release a brand-new album titled In Good Company. Today, Live For Live Music is proud to premiere In Good Company in its entirety before it’s released tomorrow.

As mandolinist Winston Heuga explained in a statement,

This album was a multi-level learning experience. We learned how to work together to explore each other’s ideas, and we learned what it took to believe in something in the long run and not just look for instant gratification or immediate satisfaction. We live together, work together, travel in a very confined space together, and we feel in good company together. The album is a product of how we feel about one another, and it wouldn’t be possible without each individual’s contribution.

“Been Thinkin'” is a funk-fueled party, with a hint of ’80s disco sprinkled in. The title track, “In Good Company”, shows an evolution in the band, with complex harmonies overlaying a tight base laid out by Tyler Gwynn and Andrew Cooney’s rhythm section.  “Arkansas” is a delectable treat for music lovers, with the song showcasing Tenth Mountain Division’s versatility, hopping in between different genres and tempos throughout the entirety of the track. Campbell Thomas does an amazing job mixing soulful lyrics with his silky-smooth piano fills, allowing his musical brethren to layer their sonic textures over his. Then there’s “Moguls”, which has a much heavier, hard-rock vibe to it and pays homage to the band’s strong ties to the mountains and ski slopes. The album is chock full of raw rock and roll, with a savory listening experience guaranteed for all.
