Today is Trey Anastasio‘s 58th birthday! Born on September 30th, 1964, the future Phish guitarist grew up in Princeton, NJ and later relocated to Vermont where he met his future bandmates Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, and Page McConnell. Through the seminal jam band’s nearly 40-year run, Big Red has shepherded the group through its ups and downs from breakups through quarantines and into the modern era. With so many accomplishments and a birthday to celebrate, let’s look back at just a few of the many memorable Trey Anastasio moments over the years.

See below to watch the “Roses are Free” jam from 1998’s “Island Tour”, the famous “Chalk Dust Torture” from Randall’s Island 2014, “First Tube” from Bonnaroo 2002 with the Trey Anastasio Band, memorable guest spots with Dave Matthews Band and The Fab Faux, performances of “Standing on the Moon” and “Scarlet Begonias” into “Fire On The Mountain” from his appearance with the Grateful Dead at 2015’s Fare Thee Well shows, the 30+ minute “Lawn Boy” from the 2017 Baker’s Dozen Run, and the 38-minute “Ruby Waves” from the band’s 2019 Alpine Valley Music Theatre run.
