Big Gigantic‘s Dominic Lalli has officially launched a solo career with his brand new single, “Together”. Released on Friday, June 12th, all proceeds from the song will benefit Black Lives Matter, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.

A departure from the hard-hitting bass and synthesizer typical in Big Gigantic’s music, “Together” sees Lalli explore his instrumental jazz roots. The song starts with the soft hum of a piano over which Lalli wails on his saxophone. That soft hum built powerfully to an uplifting embrace of sound throughout its 1:32 runtime, culminating in an optimistic and encouraging climax before ending with a resolving phrase on piano.

“I wrote this song a couple of months ago in the middle of the global pandemic. I woke up feeling every feeling— every emotion— and just wrote it, recorded it from my home and posted it up online,” said Lalli in a press release. “It was very in the moment. I wrote that I found comfort knowing that we were all in this together and that hopefully we’d all come out of it a little stronger and as better humans.”

Lalli continued, “Now, today, as the global pandemic lingers, we find ourselves in the midst of what has quickly become the largest civil rights movement in history. This is a breakthrough moment for humanity. I feel a sense of togetherness now, more than ever, and if we keep pushing we know we will finally start to see real change where we need it most. We are uniting our voices, working together and we won’t back down. I am learning more everyday how I can be a better ally, friend and collaborator to the BIPOC (Black & Indigenous People of Color) who have inspired my music & my life. I hope this piece of music can provide a sense of healing & love as the fight continues.”

“Together” arrived with a video that paid tribute to the thousands of protesters across the country who marched in honor of George Floyd, the Minnesota man unjustly killed by police at the end of May. The video cycles through images of activists protesting police brutality and racial injustice in cities like Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, and others.
