Last night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert featured a meeting of the generations when legendary country music singer-songwriter John Prine welcomed modern country mavericks Sturgill Simpson and Brandi Carlile to join him for a tune. The pair helped Prine out on “Summer’s End”, a new tune from Prine’s latest album, Tree of Forgiveness.

John Prine with Sturgill Simpson & Brandi Carlile – “Summer’s End”

As previously reported, Tree of Forgiveness was released today—April 13th—and marks Prine’s first full-length album of new original material in 13 years. The album was produced by Dave Cobb, the man behind Simpson and Carlile’s most recent records. Tree of Forgiveness also marks Prine’s first release since 2016, when he joined forces with a talented array of female artists like Susan Tedeschi, Lee Ann Womack, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, and Kacey Musgraves on the duets album For Better, or Worse.Â
