On Friday and Saturday night, members of The New MastersoundsSouliveThievery Corporation, The Greyboy Allstars, and more came together to pay tribute to Grant Green, a pioneering jazz and funk musician prominent during the 1960’s and 70’s. Dubbed “Green Is Beautiful” after Green’s 1970 release by the same name, Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), Alan Evans (Soulive), Chris Spies, Chris Stillwell, and Nick Gerlach tore up Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox on Friday night and Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom on Saturday.

Eddie Roberts and company have previously brought their Grant Green tribute to Denver, as in the Spring, the group performed a series of shows across the Front Range honoring the famed jazz musician. However, with this run of shows, Green Is Beautiful shared the spotlight; while Friday was a headlining show at the intimate Ophelia’s, Saturday night, the group co-headlined with Dragon Smoke—an all-star collective featuring Robert Mercurio (Galactic), Stanton Moore (Galactic), Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), and Eric Lindell.
