This weekend, Summer Camp Music Festival returns to Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL for its annual Memorial Day Weekend festivities. This year’s lineup is as strong, if not stronger than ever, with three days of Umphrey’s McGee, three days of moe., and two sets of Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band with special guest Eric Krasno on tap, in addition to performances from countless talented artists across a diverse spectrum of genres. To add to the anticipation as we prepare for yet another Summer Camp this weekend, we talked to the festival’s lead photographer, Keith Griner (Phierce Photo), who shared some of his favorite photos and memories from last year’s Summer Camp.

“Summer Camp is not just one of my favorite events of the year,” explains Griner, “I feel at home surrounded by my ‘jamily’ at Three Sisters Park. … I will always remember the fireworks that mother nature brought in the form of the sunset during Pretty Lights Live Band [pictured above]. Run the Jewels [pictured below] was my favorite set of the weekend, followed closely by Turkuaz [pictured below], who always make my soul feel alright.”

Keith also recounts one particularly heartwarming story from Summer Camp 2017:

I’ll never forget how kind the Umphrey’s McGee folks were to let The Main Squeeze play on their stage between sets after their set was rained out earlier in the day. I know that it wasn’t easy on the UM crew who didn’t get a break because of this, but stayed the course so that the music could go on. This is the kind of friendship and love that Summer Camp Music Festival is all about.
