A prodigious pool of artists came together on Friday at The Fillmore New Orleans for Tulane University‘s sixth annual Tipping Point benefit concert.
The only concert series of this magnitude in the country that supports a university, Tipping Point raises significant scholarship dollars to help Tulane attract and support the promising young leaders whose contributions create a vibrant educational environment on campus. The sixth annual Tipping Point event, executive produced by RWE Partners (Love Rocks NYC), was once again hosted by Quint Davis, the former Tulane attendee best known as the producer of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Special guests who filtered in throughout the show included Stephen Marley (who closed the show with an all-hands-on-deck rendition of his father Bob Marley‘s “One Love”), Lukas Nelson (who led three songs including Paul Simon‘s “Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes”), David Shaw (who sang one of his own as well as a cover of Tom Petty‘s “Refugee), Ledisi (who gave the audience chills with a Nina Simone “Feeling Good” cover and more), and Irma Thomas (who dazzled on her own “Time Is On My Side”).
Other guests included Jimmie Vaughan, Jon Cleary, Marc Broussard, Nigel Hall, Jimmy Vivino, and George Porter Jr. They all mixed in with an Eric Krasno-led house band featuring Ivan Neville, Tony Hall, Raymond Weber, Mark Mullins, and The Levee Horns.
