Yet another edition of Strings & Sol has come and gone this weekend. The destination bluegrass event at Puerto Morelos, Mexico’s Now Sapphire resort once again secured some of our favorite artists to perform the intimate festival. With the likes of Yonder Mountain String BandGreensky BluegrassLeftover SalmonThe Infamous Stringdusters, and Fruition on tap, Strings & Sol 2017 was a dream, with attendees escaping the snow up north while simultaneously get their bluegrass fix—and then some.

Within the intimate confines of the resort, fans and musicians alike mingled, making for a music lover’s paradise. The playful atmosphere allowed artists to let loose, with many of the acts branching out from performing their usual catalog, instead taking on the challenge of working in covers that are somewhat outside of their normal touring repertoire.

For example, Greensky Bluegrass, during their first set of the weekend, tackled Widespread Panic and the global dance hit “The Macarena”, with the latter being revived throughout the group’s other Strings & Sol sets. Some of our other favorite covers that we’ve seen from the festival also include The Infamous Stringdusters’ take on Phish’s “2001” (creating a cover-inception if you will) as well as Leftover Salmon’s rousing tribute to the Allman Brothers Band with a rendition of “Sweet Melissa”.
