Are you ready, kids?! There’s a SpongeBob SquarePants musical making its way to Broadway in 2016, with a soundtrack written by a legendary roster of musicians. David Bowie, Dirty Projectors, the Flaming Lips, They Might Be Giants, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, T.I., Panic! at the Disco, Lady Antebellum, Plain White T’s, and Jonathan Coulton are all involved in the original composition.
A Nickelodeon executive calls his musical directors “a dream team of SpongeBob fans who happen to be top-flight musical artists.”
The play will first hit Chicago’s Oriental Theatre from June 7-July 3, 2016, before heading off to the Broadway stage for the 2016-2017 season.
