If you love the artist that is Prince, then check out this tribute show coming our way. Brought to you by Michael Dorf, the Knitting Factory founder and owner of City Winery, on March 7th at Carnegie Hall a tribute to Prince will bring together artists such as the Blind Boys of Alabama, Talib Kweli, Booker T, DeVotchka, Living Colour, Madeleine Peyroux and the Waterboys’ Mike Scott, with additional acts to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
And what would a tribute show be without The Roots serving as the evening’s house band? Really, is there a better band that you could think of for this duty?
Dorf has been putting these tributes shows on for a few years now, and has raised over $700,000 in funding for music education programs for underprivileged youth. Other tribute shows have included the music of The Rolling Stones, The Who, R.E.M., Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, Elton John, and more. This year’s recipients of 100% of the proceeds will be The American Symphony Orchestra’s Music Notes, Church Street School of Music, Young Audiences New York, FIKS (Fixing Instruments for Kids in School), Little Kids Rock, and the Center for Arts Education.
