Adele, the global hit-making British singing superstar, will make her first public appearance in years as the host of Saturday Night Live this coming Saturday, October 24th. Of note, Adele will only be covering hosting duties, not performing duties, as fast-rising singer/multi-instrumentalist H.E.R. will serve as the musical guest for the episode.

Adele has remained mostly out of the spotlight since the release of her last album, 2015’s 25, which earned the Grammy for “Album of the Year” and was certified Diamond by the RIAA, making it the second highest-selling album of the 2010s—after her own 2010 album, 21.

In an Instagram post announcing her forthcoming SNL appearance, Adele expressed her excitement and provided some historical perspective on the role the long-running sketch comedy/variety show has played in her career. “Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!!” she exclaimed in the post.

“I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right. But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right? Itll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election…which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!”

She also made sure to express her excitement over having H.E.R. as the musical guest on her Saturday Night Live episode. “I am besides myself that H.E.R will be the musical guest!!” she noted. “I love her SO much I can’t wait to melt into a flaming hot mess when she performs, then confuse myself while I laugh my arse off in between it all.”

While her appearance on SNL will not come in a musical capacity, the announcement of Adele as this week’s Saturday Night Live host has caused a cascade of speculation from fans about new music on the horizon from the singer. Known for keeping her personal live out of the private eye, Adele has kept her public appearances to a minimum in the five years since the release of 25. Could this appearance indicate that new music is coming soon? We’ll have to wait and see.

Tune in to Saturday Night Live with host Adele and musical guest H.E.R. on Saturday night, October 24th, 2020 on NBC.
