Afroman is seeking a higher office with the announcement of a 2024 bid for president of the United States. The announcement arrived back on December 20th from the “Because I Got High” rapper’s campaign manager Jason Savage.

“There comes a time in the course of human events when change must be affected. That time is now,” Savage wrote on Instagram. “Americans are suffering, and the status quo is no longer acceptable.”

The campaign announcement hits plenty of current hot-button issues like inflation, the economy, the housing market, division in the media, and more. Stegner also characterizes the platinum-selling rapper as “The most rejected, disrespected, when he went for a job he was never selected, and is still The American Dream.”

“The original Hungry Hustler. A representative of the blue state of California, and the red state of Mississippi. Our Cannabis Commander in Chief. Our Pot Head of State,” the announcement reads. “Who better to hold the highest office in the land, than the highest and flyest playa in the game? He is for the black man, Mexican, even poor white, all human beings that have no rights. So put down your past, and pick up your future.”

Beyond the lyrical campaign announcement, Afroman laid out his eight main priorities for his campaign. Unsurprisingly, first and foremost is the legalization of cannabis “and other natural substances with low harm profiles.” He also wants to legalize prostitution, noting that “Afroman is the ultimate proponent of individual liberty.”

In terms of actual policy, Afroman’s campaign falls somewhere between Kanye West and Joe Walsh (the Eagles guitarist, not the representative from Illinois). Many of his other priorities align with progressive politics, including reforming criminal justice and law enforcement. He supports reparations for African Americans, immediately halting all foreign aid, and the promotion of unity, peace, and love. Lastly, Afroman wants to promote celebratory displays in sports “through tax incentives and favorable rules.”

Afroman’s campaign for president arrives several months after the rapper made headlines following a raid on his home in Adams County, Ohio. According to statements the rapper made to TMZ, local law enforcement kicked down his door looking for drugs while he was out on tour. Officials allegedly came up short, only finding a jar of hemp and a vape pen. Afroman claims the raid was retaliation after the local police department grew enraged by his daily check-ins regarding their investigation into a previous burglary at his house.

“I excepted the fact that the police department is not necessary here to protect and serve me a blacc man in America so I just took my loss and never called bacc,” he wrote on Instagram back in August. “Now here they are kicc-ing in my door looking for weapons of mass destruction and 100,000,000 pounds of weed lol wow Donald Trump calls these investigations witchhunts.”
