On Tuesday, the band previewed their forthcoming release by sharing the live recording of their well-known original, “Midnight Rider”. The song was performed on January 29th, 1971, during the first of three total shows the band held at San Francisco’s The Fillmore, of which the forthcoming release will showcase. The song had been released less than a year earlier in September 1970 as part of the band’s sophomore studio effort, Idlewild South

The recording of the band’s take on it on 1/29/71 sounds pretty clear, considering the original tapes had been in the possession of band crew’s members until recently.

Earlier this year, SiriusXM treated listeners the exclusive first listen of the unreleased Allman Brothers Band live album originally performed and recorded at the famous San Francisco music venue.

Fillmore West 1971 captures the beloved rock band’s three performances at the San Francisco venue on January 29th, 30th, and 31st of that year. The live compilation is set to arrive on four CDs, and will feature the rock band’s nightly performances of “Statesboro Blues”, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, and “Whipping Post”, in addition performances which only appeared on later editions of their famed Fillmore East LP, such “Don’t Keep Me Wondering”, and of course, “Midnight Rider”.

Fillmore West 1971 is scheduled for a September 6th release via The Allman Brothers Band and The Orchard Enterprises.
