Finally, the mystery behind Matthew McConaughey’s “alright, alright, alright” is unearthed! An interview done in 2011 with CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight has resurfaced on the internet following Matthew’s Oscar win for Dallas Buyer’s Club. In the interview Matthew describes getting into character for his first role, David Wooderson in Dazed and Confused. He was seeking inspiration for his character when his spirit guide Jim Morrison found the right words for him. “Aright, Alright, Alright”.

Morrison bellows these words four times in between two songs on a live Doors album that Matthew was listening to. Matthew explains that each ‘alright’ stands for something his character valued, one for sitting in his car, one is for listening to rock ‘n roll, and one is for feeling a little ‘dazed and confused’. The rest is history.
