Today, Buffalo-based groove rock quartet Aqueous has announced that their newest studio album, Color Wheel, is on its way. The new album, the band’s first full-length studio effort since 2014’s Cycles, is set for an October 12th release. Aqueous’ Color Wheel will be released via digital platforms as well as on vinyl.

As guitarist/keyboardist Dave Loss explains in a press release,

Color Wheel feels like a step forward for the band in every way. We tapped into a distinctly more emotional and purposeful space when writing it, and there’s a raw honesty throughout the album’s lyrics and themes that I think a lot of people can relate to. Though some of those themes are a little heavier, there’s a constant thread of hopeful optimism that we hope people will really connect with. Musically, the band has evolved and Color Wheel finds us exploring some new and very exciting musical lanes.

Of the album’s 10 tracks, the majority have yet to be heard in the live setting. Even the ones that have been played live have received new studio treatments. One such tune, “Weight of the Word”, features the Turkuaz Horns on its Color Wheel recording.

Pegging this record as a concept album, Aqueous will be releasing the 10 tracks in a unique way, presenting three waves of batched releases with the first wave due out as soon as next week. Explains guitarist Mike Gantzer,

There’s a certain continuity to this entire album, and it unfolds in a way that makes the track order important for the experience – there’s an underlying narrative happening throughout the lyrics and themes, and the overarching theme of the story is a strong sense of optimism through the struggle of the realities of life. For this reason, we wanted to release the album in waves, ultimately, to give people a chance to settle into each section of the album and digest it thoroughly before diving into the next.
