On June 11th, Aqueous hit Denver, performing a sold-out show at the Bluebird Theater with support from Colorado’s own Evanoff. Playing right up until curfew, the Buffalo-based groove rockers offered up one hell of a performance, playing a fearless mix of treasured originals, psychedelic covers, and tight improvisational jams throughout the night. Today, the band is releasing the show as a live album titled Live From The Bluebird, with the album available on all digital streaming platforms.
Opening the show with a take on the Super Mario Bros. theme, the band quickly jammed into “Second Sight”, a staple of Aqueous’ live shows since being debuted early last year. From there, the band partially performed “They’re Calling For Ya”, an older tune from the group that has dropped off in recent years, having only been performed four times in 2018, ahead of a well-segued take into “Random Company”. Next up was “Don’t Do It”, which sandwiched the band’s second performance ever of “D.A.R.E.”, a Gorillaz cover that was first brought out during the group’s Gorillaz-theme New Year’s Eve show in Buffalo this year.
As for set two, Aqueous kicked things off with a triumphant rendition of “The Median”. Unlike the first set, which saw the group running through a number of tunes and showing off their diversity of sound, in the second set, the band focused in on improvisational jamming across six songs. Following an unfinished “20/20”, the band moved into “Complex Pt. II”, marking the second time the song has been performed in 2018. Next up was “Fearless”, a Pink Floyd cover off 1971’s Meddle, marking the song’s sixth performance ever. With Aqueous playing up until curfew, “Fearless” was used to kick off a non-stop sprint to the show’s end, which also featured “Aldehyde” and “Triangle”.
As guitarist Mike Gantzer told us earlier the month, “Denver was one of my favorite shows of 2018 so far. The Bluebird Theater is a beautiful room and it was epic and very fun to throw down to a sold-out crowd in such an amazing place. The energy was through the roof.”
In a statement in a press release, he added,
Our show at the Bluebird was one of those rare nights where everything totally clicked. The band was riding a wave of synergy, the setlists were a blast, and we had a sold-out crowd in front of us at this wonderful theater in Denver–it was just a beautiful evening and there was a little bit of magic in the air. The fan response to these sets was overwhelming.
While Aqueous’ sold-out performance at Denver’s Bluebird Theater was previously only available via nugs.net, the show is now available for all fans to enjoy. Take a listen for yourself below.
