Talented instrumentalist and singer Jae Miles hits the ground running with her debut single, “The Unknown,” which arrived independently late last month. The song acts as the lead single from Miles’ forthcoming album, which is still untitled but scheduled to arrive sometime in 2021.

Placing the listener from the point of view of being penned in an airport at the beginning of a solo cross-country journey, “The Unknown” addresses uncertainty, both in life and love. Miles was entering an unknown place in her life when writing this song, and the lyrics for “The Unknown” provide an inside glimpse of someone who is unsure of what the future holds in these uncertain times. The gritty rock and roll track showcases Miles’ seasoned vocal tone, reminiscent of a Grace Potter or Bonnie Raitt. Miles clearly draws on those two artists, while adding a softness similar to that of a Carole King in her songwriting and performances. There’s little doubt that she has been heavily influenced by classic rock, Motown, and soul elements growing up.

The other performers who appear on “The Unknown” include Isaac Friedman on lead/rhythm guitars, Ben Deixler (who also mixed the song) on keys. The song’s audio was mastered by Mitch Glider. Listen to the new single below.

Miles intends to release a few more singles before the end of the year, with hopes of debuting her debut solo album by next summer. Though live gigs are practically nonexistent these days, Miles has kept busy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to using thise free time to continue writing and recording new material, Miles has hosted virtual performance livestreams via her social media pages.

In addition to releases as a solo artist, Jae is one of the many talented female vocalists who perform with NYC-based funk/covers outfit We Thee Funk. She has performed with them in backyard concerts and underground/DIY shows throughout the summer months and has a gig scheduled at Hometown BBQ in Red Hook, Brooklyn on Friday, October 30th.

Fans should keep their ars out for more from this emerging talent as she bursts onto the scene later this year.
