As I Lay Dying & The Devil Wears Prada – The Paramount – March 20th

As I Lay Dying, the metalcore act out of San Diego, CA will be making their way to, what many consider the home of hardcore (especially during the 80′s and 90′s), Long Island on Wednesday, March 20th when they play Huntington’s The Paramount.    With bands like Vision of Disorder, Biohazard, Sick of It All, Cro-Mags, Glassjaw, Candiria, From Autumn to Ashes, 25 Ta Life, and the Gorilla Biscuits, Long Island and the 5 Boroughs are no strangers to all things metal.  Joining As I Lay Dying will be Dayton, OH’s The Devil Wears Prada, who have garnered plenty of attention for themselves since forming in 2005.  Purchase tickets to the show here.

As I Lay Dying
As I Lay Dying’s sound has been described as metalcore, melodic metalcore, thrash metal, and even borderline death metal.  But one thing is for sure, these guys throw down some serious heavy.  With their current lineup set in place, founding members Tim Lambesis (vocals) and Jordan Mancino (drums) have found the perfect chemistry with Phil Sgrosso (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Nick Hipa (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Josh Gilbers (bass, clean vocals) to take themselves into their second decade of existence.  With characteristics of melodic death metal and thrash, their use of harmonic and aggressive guitar riffs, both growled and singing vocals, and some straight-up filthy breakdowns, As I Lay Dying has created a formula that can be appreciated by fans from all the different schools of metal.

With a resume that includes six full-length albums, including 2012′s Awakened, 201o’s The Powerless Rise, and 2007′s Grammy-nominated An Ocean Between Us (which peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200), As I Lay Dying is just catching their stride with what has already been a wildly successful career.  The band has performed at OzzFest, Bamboozle, Soundwave Festival, Sounds of the Underground, Warped Tour, Bloodstock Open Air and Taste of Chaos.  In 2007, As I Lay Dying won the “Ultimate Metal God” award from MTV2 at the first annual “All That Rocks” special, and was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award for the song “Nothing Left”.  They’ve shared stages with the likes of Iron Maiden, Heaven and Hell, Slipknot, Deftones, Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Unearth, Mastodon, Black Sabbath, Killswitch Engage, In Flames, and Lamb of God.

The Devil Wears Prada
Another metalcore band that has found more than just a modicum of success, Dayton, OH’s The Devil Wears Prada has released four full-length albums, one DVD, one EP, and seven music videos in a career that started not too long ago in 2005.  Consisting of members Mike Hranica (vocals), Chris Rubey (lead guitar), Jeremy DePoyster (rhythm guitar, vocals), Andy Trick (bass), and Daniel Williams (drums), TDWP released the concept album Dead Throne in 2011 to critical and commercial acclaim.  The album reached #10 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 32,000 copies in its first week.

The bands previous effort With Roots Above and Branches Below (2009) reached #11 on the Billboard 200, and with the songs “Dez Moines” and “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?” were released as downloadable content for the video games Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band (1 & 2).  The Devil Wears Prada is currently working on a new album, which singer Mike Hranica stated as being “darker than Dead Throne, and lyrically more sad and miserable.”
