On Thursday, April 26th, As The Crow Flies continued their inaugural tour with a performance at The Signal in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The project, led by Chris Robinson, formerly of The Black Crowes, has been generating buzz since it was announced earlier in the year. Composed of Crowes guitarist Audley Freed and bassist Andy HessChris Robinson Brotherhood drummer Tony Leone and keyboardist Adam MacDougall, as well as guitarist Marcus King, the all-star lineup has been wowing audiences thus during their tour, which kicked off at The Capitol Theatre on April 17th.

In keeping with the group’s shows thus far, the majority of the band’s setlist on Thursday night featured takes on songs from the extensive Black Crowes’ songbook. The band’s extended lone set opened with takes on “Remedy”, “Sting Me”, “Hotel Illness” off the Black Crowes’ second album, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, released in 1992. The group then fast forwarded, offering up a standout rendition of “By Your Side”, the title track of The Black Crowes’ fifth studio album.

Throughout the night, the group continued to draw from various eras of The Black Crowes’ songbook. However, the band also laid out a select number of choice covers during the show, including takes on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Almost Cut My Hair”, Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle” (which The Black Crowes recorded on 1990’s Shake Your Money Maker), and Joe South’s “Hush”, and Johnny Winters’ “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo”, which locked down the band’s encore song.
