Atlanta, GA’s Variety Playhouse has announced a new event, Atlanta Pop: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Atlanta International Pop Festival, set for December 6th. The concert will pay tribute to the Atlanta International Pop Festival, which was held at Hampton, GA’s Atlanta International Raceway on July 4th and 5th, 1969. The festival, which drew upwards of 150,000 attendees, was held more than a month before Woodstock and saw performances by Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Winter, Grand Funk Railroad, and many more.

The Hues Of Miriam—comprised of Col. Bruce Hampton alumni Jacob DeatonNick JohnsonKevin ScottDarren StanleyMatt Slocum and Duane—will make their live debut when they serve as the official house band for the 50th anniversary celebratory concert.

The event has also recruited a star-studded lineup of special guests to join the house band including Brandon “Taz” NiederauerCharlie StarrJennifer HartswickJeff MosierDenny WalleyT. Hardy Morris, Sven Pipien, Thomas Johnson, Carter King, Daniel Womack, Cody Matlock, Andrea DeMarcus, and Cicada Rhythm’s Dave Kirslis.

Additional guests are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
