Plini, an Australian-based guitarist who focuses on prog-rock and instrumental styles, has shared a very innovative way of channeling nature and the surrounding world to inspire new music melodies.

The musician, who is also a columnist for popular industry publication Guitar World, has transcribed a melody out of the exact alignment of flying birds as seen in a photograph he took by charting out the notes as they would appear on traditional Western sheet music. The resulting melodic lines, when added with a dreamy delay effect and ethereal undertones, sounds pretty good, just as Mother Nature intended.

“Recently took this pic & today decided to use it as a melody generation experiment,” Plini mentioned with the video shared to his Instagram on Monday. “There’s a lil more to it than where this clip ends so i think i shall put it up on bandcamp or something soon. [moon emoji] (pls don’t judge my total inability to write sheet music) enjoy xoxo.”

Listen to the nature-inspired composition below.

This isn’t the first time the guitarist has attempted to transcribe melody from the position of subjects in a photograph. The initial spark from this innovative technique came when he did the same with a photograph of surfers shared back in December, and the result was just as dreamy as impressive as his bird melody. Check it out below.
