On Monday night, The Avett Brothers stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in support of their brand new album.

The folk-rock band, fronted by brothers Seth and Scott Avett, released their new studio album, Closer Than Together, last Friday via Republic Records. Produced by Rick Rubin, the 13-track studio album marks the fifth collaboration with Rubin and is the band’s first new music since 2016’s True Sadness.

For their Fallon appearance, The Avett Brothers worked through “Tell The Truth”, the second song that appears on Closer Than Together. The band showcased their rootsy rock on an all-white stage, highlighted by the brothers’ lush vocal harmonies.

“We didn’t make a record that was meant to comment on the sociopolitical landscape that we live in,” Seth Avett explained in a statement when the band detailed their forthcoming album earlier this year. “We did, however, make an album that is obviously informed by what is happening now on a grander scale all around us…The Avett Brothers will probably never make a sociopolitical record. But if we did, it might sound something like this.”

Next up for the band is a performance at Southaven, MS’s Landers Center on October 24th with Trampled By Turtles. Head to The Avett Brothers’ website for a full list of the band’s upcoming tour dates, ticketing, and more information.
