The Avett Brothers and their fans are charging into the weekend with the band’s new album, Closer Than Together, which is out today via Republic Records.

The 13-track studio album is the band’s first since 2016’s True Sadness, and features previously-released singles in “High Steppin’” and “Bang Bang“.

“We didn’t make a record that was meant to comment on the sociopolitical landscape that we live in,” Seth Avett explained in a statement when the band detailed their forthcoming album earlier this year. “We did, however, make an album that is obviously informed by what is happening now on a grander scale all around us…The Avett Brothers will probably never make a sociopolitical record. But if we did, it might sound something like this.”

The band continues their busy fall tour schedule into the weekend with shows at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA on Friday and Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday before taking a three-week break from the road. The run of fall shows will pick up again on October 24th with a performance at the Landers Center in Southaven, MS.
