The Avett Brothers recently stopped by SiriusXM for a live in-studio session, which included a cover of Loudon Wainwright III’s “The Swimming Song”.
“The Swimming Song” was originally released as the lead track on Wainwright’s 1973 album, Attempted Mustache. The Avett Brothers debuted the song at a live performance at St. Louis, MO’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on July 12th.

On Friday, the folk-rock band fronted by brothers Seth and Scott Avett released their new studio album, Closer Than Together, via Republic Records. The 13-track studio album is the band’s first since 2016’s True Sadness and features previously-released singles “High Steppin’” and “Bang Bang“.
“We didn’t make a record that was meant to comment on the sociopolitical landscape that we live in,” Seth Avett explained in a statement when the band detailed their forthcoming album earlier this year. “We did, however, make an album that is obviously informed by what is happening now on a grander scale all around us…The Avett Brothers will probably never make a sociopolitical record. But if we did, it might sound something like this.”
Next up for the band is a performance at Southaven, MS’s Landers Center on October 24th with Trampled By Turtles. Head to The Avett Brothers’ website for a full list of the band’s upcoming tour dates, ticketing, and more information.
