Backwoods Music Festival has announced the artist lineup for its return to Ozark, AR’s Mulberry Mountain from April 20th–23rd, 2023.
The 2023 edition of the jam- and electronic-focused event will feature headlining performances by Big Gigantic (Thursday, 4/20), Lettuce (Friday, 4/21), The String Cheese Incident (2 sets, Saturday, 4/22), and The Floozies (Sunday, 4/23).
Of particular note, the 2023 Backwoods event will make good on a years-old promise of The String Cheese Incident as a headliner after the band rescheduled a number of 2021 shows due to rising COVID cases. The Disco Biscuits stepped in the fill SCI’s vacated 2021 headlining slot. Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain did not take place in 2022.
Now, with The String Cheese Incident back in the mix for 2023, Backwoods Festival organizers are giving fans some extra consolation Cheese in the form of a “Late Night Acoustic Taco Party.” Attendees who purchased tickets to see SCI at Backwoods Festival in 2021 will receive free tickets to the special late-night jam session if they choose to attend the event in 2023. Others can purchase the add-on ticket for the acoustic set for an additional cost.
“We’re proud to release this lineup that we’ve worked so hard to cultivate for the next Backwoods.” said Backwoods executive producer William Royall in a statement. “We tried to have The String Cheese Incident headline in 2021 but the pandemic prevented their attendance.”
Additional performers include (in alphabetical order) Andy Frasco & The U.N., Apashe, Arkansauce, Boogie T, Boogie T.Rio, Dirt Monkey, Flintwick, G-Rex, Keller Williams, Lucii, Maddy O’Neal, Morgin Madison, Neighbor, Of The Trees, Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, SoDown, SunSquabi, Super Future, The Polish Ambassador, The Schwag, Tisoki, Zingara, and more.
Tickets for the 2023 edition of Backwoods Festival at Mulberry Mountain are on sale now via the event’s website.
The initial 2023 Backwoods Festival lineup, which arrived on Friday, included electronic artist Blunts & Blondes. That same day, sexual assault allegations against the dubstep artist came to light. The festival announced soon after the lineup drop that due to the allegations, Blunts & Blondes would be replaced on the lineup, and on Tuesday, the festival named KOAN Sound and Jason Leech as substitutes.
“While we understand the story is still evolving, we want to send a clear message to our attendees that Backwoods does not stand for this sort of behavior, and that we want to create a safe space for our attendees,” said William Royall, Executive Producer of Backwoods.
Blunts & Blondes, a.k.a. Michael Guard, was accused by Gabrielle Reinhardt of engaging in nonconsensual sex acts during an incident she said occurred on July 27th, 2019. In a tweet on October 18th she wrote, “He raped me when i was 19. i’m done being quiet about it. i’ve told a lot of people and no one believed me that’s why i stayed quiet. i’m done.” She later posted a statement recounting the assault.
Blunts & Blondes has denied all allegations of sexual abuse in a statement maintaining that he has “only ever had consensual encounters.”
