Artist-friendly audio streaming service Bandcamp has announced the launch of its new “Bandcamp Live” ticketed video streaming platform.

Revealed in full on Tuesday, Bandcamp Live will give artists a platform to stream performances in real-time while connecting with their fans with just the use of a laptop, webcam, and microphone.

With Bandcamp Live, the website will notify fans directly whenever an artist’s stream performance is announced, and fans will have the option to purchase digital access via the credit card already on file on their Bandcamp account. There will also be an optional chat feature where viewers can discuss the show while the artist or chosen moderators can engage with your community in real-time. The artist can set the ticket price to whatever they want, and Bandcamp will only take 10% of the total digital ticket earnings. It’s also worth noting that Bandcamp will waive the 10% fee entirely until March 31st, 2021.

Artists will also have the opportunity to display their music catalog on Bandcamp (and merchandise) alongside the video stream, allowing fans to purchase the digital music or merch item without interrupting the performance.

Bandcamp also revealed a full schedule of upcoming Bandcamp Live performances from various independent artists slated for the next few months, including David Allred (11/17), Anne Lanzilotti (12/4), Butcher Brown (12/10), Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith (12/21), Cloud Nothings (2/27), KNOWER‘s Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi (dates TBD), and more. The announcement also noted that Bandcamp will continue to roll out this new feature to more artists in the coming months.

Bandcamp made headlines earlier this year following the emergence of COVID-19 when the audio streaming platform waived its service fees for artists on Friday, March 20th, and again on Friday, May 1st. In September, Bandcamp announced it would continue its “Bandcamp Fridays” initiative through the end of the year on the first Friday of each month.
