After releasing the critically acclaimed Noise vs. Beauty album in 2014, Bassnectar almost didn’t have time for his annual summer tradition: releasing a mixtape. This year sees Lorin Ashton, aka Bassnectar, return to form with the upcoming release of Into The Sun.
Unlike NvB, which required extensive studio time, Ashton likens Into The Sun to making a mixtape. In Rolling Stone, he said “This is like a mixtape you’d make for a lover or friend before they leave on a road trip or something.”
He continued to describe Into the Sun, saying “[Mixtapes] are fun playgrounds for me because there are no rules… You’re basically sampling anything and mixing everything together with abandon. It’s like a big fucking sonic collage.” He added, “You can piece together all these different personalities of songs, and everything weaves together to form a tapestry.”
