Announced on Thursday, Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe will release a mix of special 50th-anniversary packages in celebration of the album, which arrived half-a-century ago on September 26th, 1969. It’s worth noting that the album didn’t arrive in the U.S. until a week later on October 1st.

The reissues will include the original 17 recordings featured on Abbey Road which have all been remixed by producer Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin) and mix engineer Sam Okell. The packages will also feature 23 recordings and demos captured during the famous rock band’s recording sessions for the album sourced directly from the original eight-track session tapes. The anniversary reissue marks the first time that the acclaimed studio album has ever been remixed repacked with the additional session recordings and demos.

The super deluxe box set will include 40 total tracks on three CDs and one Blu-ray disc. Alternatively, the Super Deluxe digital audio collection will feature all 40 tracks for download and streaming. Vinyl collectors will be happy to know that a limited edition Deluxe vinyl box set will also include all 40 tracks from the Super Deluxe collection on three 180-gram vinyl LPs.

“The Beatles recording journey had gone through many twists and turns, learning curves and thrilling rides,” bassist Paul McCartney penned for the foreword for the anniversary packages. “Here we were — still wondering at the magic of it all.”

Giles Martin also added, “The magic comes from the hands playing the instruments, the blend of The Beatles’ voices, the beauty of the arrangements. Our quest is simply to ensure everything sounds as fresh and hits you as hard as it would have on the day it was recorded.”
