The Beatles are set to reissue their classic 1967 Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band on May 26, 2017. In celebration of the album’s 50th anniversary, they’ve released a stripped-down, mellow version of the title track, complete with studio chatter. This recording is the ninth take, and showcases the band’s intentions for the song that eventually became the definitive rock anthem that we know today.

Paul McCartney says in a press release, “It’s crazy to think that 50 years later we are looking back on this project with such fondness and a little bit of amazement at how four guys, a great producer and his engineers could make such a lasting piece of art.”
