Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn made their first appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series earlier this week. Well, that’s not entirely accurate—both Fleck and Washburn have performed on the iconic web series on previous occasions. However, the latest Tiny Desk entry marks the first time that the husband-and-wife banjo duo have performed on the program together.

Fleck and Washburn (who is eight month pregnant with the couple’s child) dropped by NPR’s Washington, DC office to play four tunes from their 2017 album Echo In The Valley. Among them were “Over The Divide”, a song that was inspired by the Syrian Refugee Crisis, and “Bloomin’ Rose”, a response to the Dakota pipeline protests at Standing Rock. Washburn also abandoned her banjo and brought her vocals to the forefront on the final two numbers, “Take Me To Harlan” and “My Home’s Across the Blue Ridge Mountains”.
