Many people considered Beyonce’s jaw dropping rendition of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ at the Barack Obama’s Presidential inauguration, in which she dramatically tossed her ear piece, to be perfect. That’s because it was. A rep for the United States Marine Band, whom backed Beyonce on the song, told the NY Post’s Page Six that Beyonce opted to use a previously recorded track at the last minute. Yup, she lip-synched.
Kristin Dubois, who is the rep for the band, explained to Page Six,
“All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day…We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the (sic) reason why.”
This has left the world confused. How could Beyonce do such a terrible thing. This is BEYONCE, not Ashley Simpson. It just doesn’t commute. Can the public really be mad at Beyonce? Do we really have it in us? I don’t know what it is, but it seems like Beyonce has reached that level of celebrity where she can do no wrong. We’ve watched her grow up since she was a teen, saw her toss aside her band mates to go solo, and marry the most powerful man in hip hop.
Now that she’s a mom, the media treats the baby like it’s black Jesus, and even when she gets caught lip-synching, which can be somewhat of a kiss of death for a career, no one is ready to really go all out on her. Many commentators jump to defend Beyonce, saying she HAD to have been singing, and how EVERYONE uses backing tracks. Yeah, ok – that’s why the band felt the need the issue a statement.
Deal with it. Beyonce lip-synched. I don’t care. But if you’re gonna make a big deal about it, then we should give her the same treatment Ashlee Simpson and Millie Vanilli got when caught. If you’re not prepared to do that, than move along and let’s move past this one.
