BIG Something has released a provocatively funky single, “Heavy”, marking the band’s first new studio track since 2018. In addition to the single, BIG Something will release a new album, Escape, later this year. The album will serve as a follow-up to 2018’s The Otherside.

“Heavy” immediately launches into a driving rhythm punctuated by a forceful horn section before dark, brooding lyrics enter over a thumping bass line. The chorus poses the question “do you want to get high? Do you want to get heavy?” almost as if the two were competing options. It appears that, in this case, BIG Something has chosen to get heavy. While disco guitars sound off in the background, lead guitarist Jesse Hensley rips and bends the notes as high and heavy as the song’s chorus offers.

After performances on January 25th and 26th at Widespread Panic‘s Panic En La Playa getaway, BIG Something will hit the road for the unusual Royal Rumble 2020 tour “versus” Andy Frasco & The U.N. The band will also make a high-profile festival appearance at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival June 11th. With the release of a single and an album announcement just before a tour, it looks like BIG Something will bring some new material with them on the road.

Tickets and information on BIG Something’s Royal Rumble 2020 tour and festival appearances can be found on the band’s website.
