Billy Strings has canceled the 2022 installment of his annual String The Halls benefit show due to a positive COVID-19 test in his touring party, the bluegrass picker announced on Friday.
The guest-filled, two-night benefit for the Nashville Rescue Mission was due to take place at Marathon Music Works tonight, Friday, December 17th and tomorrow night, Saturday, December 18th.
As Billy noted in his announcement of the cancellation, “Friends, it is with the utmost sadness that we must cancel String the Halls due to a positive covid case within our crew. No one wanted these shows to happen more than us, but we cannot risk the health and safety of you our beloved fans, our special guests, our crew, the band and the venue staff.”
He continued, “We know a lot of you traveled in from out of town, and are deeply sorry. For those of you who chose to buy donation items for Nashville Rescue Mission, you can drop them off with the shelter directly.We will also make the show posters available online with proceeds going to Nashville Rescue Mission in the near future – please stay tuned for more info.”
In the String The Halls cancellation announcement post, Billy seemed hopeful that the band’s scheduled gigs later this month would happen as planned: “At this time we have every intention of performing our New Years Eve run in Grand Rapids and can’t wait to see you there. We love you and hope you all stay healthy and safe this holiday season.”

This will mark the second straight year without a proper String The Halls celebration for Billy Strings. In 2020, Billy and company turned String The Halls into a twelve-part, episodic video series, which they doled out gradually throughout the holiday season.
